The Hutch Tech Patrons Association serves as a support to Hutch Tech High School. Our goals are to develop a better understanding between parents, teachers and the community; to assist in the promotion of school activities and publicize the educational program of the school; and to work with the administration and teachers in efforts to improve the educational program. We encourage all parents and teachers from the school to join the Patrons Association, and we welcome your participation. Parent University The Buffalo Public Schools has introduced the Howard Lewis Parent University. Located at 179 Albany Street and other locations throughout the city, classes are available for parents to take in the areas of Parenting, Health & Wellness, Personal Growth & Development, and helping your child learn better in school. All courses are free. Parental Involvement Policy 2012-2013 1.)Two meetings were held to discuss the School-Parent Compact and the Parental Involvement Policy. a.November 19, 2012 b.November 27, 2012 2.)Administrators, teachers and parents were all involved in developing the School Comprehensive Educational Plan (SCEP). 3.)The annual Title I meeting will be held on December 5, 2012. a.Parents will be provided with information on what it means to be a Title I school. b.Parents will be provided with a description of how Title I services will help students meet proficiency levels. c.The School-Parent Compact will be discussed. d.Parents will be provided with ways to become more involved in the school, including attending Title I parent workshops. 4.)Workshops will be held to provide parents with information on forms of academic assessment and the proficiency levels that students are expected to meet. This information will also be discussed at the Annual Title I meeting. 5.)Parents are able to attend monthly Parent Group meetings along with monthly SBMT meetings. Parents will be able to participate in decisions about the education of their children at these meetings. 6.)Parents receive their children’s final state assessment grades on the report card. 7.)All teachers are required to be highly qualified in the content area that they are teaching. 8.)Monthly workshops will be held in order to assist parents to understand state standards, assessments, school requirements and course content. The following workshops will be lead by the Title I Math Teacher and the Assistant Principal. a. December 19, 2012: Graduation Requirements b. January 1, 2013: Common Core Learning Standards c. February 20, 2013: Make-It and Take-It: Using Foldables to Study Vocabulary d. March 20, 2013: Algebra Night e. April 16, 2013: Geometry Night f. May 22, 2013: Regents Prep: Test Taking Strategies for Being Successful on Final Exams g. June 5, 2013: Pythagorean Theorem 9.)Communication between parents and the school will occur in a variety of ways, including but not limited to: monthly meetings, mailings, information sent home with students, and School Connect calls. Administration and Title I Math Teacher will be responsible for ensuring effective communication occurs. 10.)A Parent Room will be created. a. Parents will have a room to work in, allowing them to become more involved with the school b. Resources will be housed in the room that provide parents with information on how to be actively involved in the school, how to work with educators and how to monitor their children’s progress, etc. The School-Parent Compact, Parental Involvement Policy and the School Comprehensive Educational Plan (SCEP) will all be used in order to increase parent involvement. It is extremely important that both the school and the parents work together in order to help improve the education of the students. |
